Beautiful Buddhism

The Buddhist sanctuary of Leh

Climbing to the top of Gonkang Gompa, our lungs battling against the thin air, we were met with a view that was, quite literally, ‘breath-taking.’

Prayer flags swished in the wind, whilst clinging like multi-coloured vines to the grey body of the building. All to the backdrop of snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas.

Gathering ourselves and our limited supply of oxygen, we walked inside – intricate paintings of idols stretched across the walls and opulent reddy, orange tapestries covered the prayer benches.

I prayed.
