Food and Sex: An Erotic Relationship

Food and Sex: An Erotic Relationship

Filling your mouth with different substances, quietly licking, softly biting and eventually swallowing … food has the propensity to be extremely erotic. Something that you put in your mouth that has the ability to stimulate the senses…is something rather special.

With the aforementioned in mind, it is hardly surprising that ‘food’ and ‘sex’ are irrevocably linked and I hasten to add that this is not just modern-day freedom of thought. Food has been used as a sexual stimulant from as early on as Ancient Greece; in fact the term ‘Aphrodisiac’ derives from the Greek Goddess Aphrodite – the Goddess of Love.

Whether sucking on Aniseed to increase the libido or chewing on Asparagus to improve sexual performance, food has spurred on the erogenous for millennia. From the old to the new, from the renowned to the rare, which foods turn people on? Which culinary treats tickle our fancy? Which flavours get the blood pumping and the heart racing and more importantly why?

Referred to in the Bible as the ‘forbidden fruit,’ the Fig is renowned for its ability to arouse. Often depicted to resemble the female sexual organs – apparently there is nothing better than a man opening a fig and eating in front of a woman to awaken her innermost sexual passion.

Figs aren’t the only fruit said to drive the libido crazy – with its soft fuzzy exterior and succulent, juicy interior the peach has often been linked with sex. In fact, a Channel Island Lawyer swears by the peach in her fruity foreplay – she suggests rubbing your other half softly with the delicate fur before sharing mouthfuls of the peaches moist flesh, concluding that ‘believe me it won’t just be the peaches juices that flow!’ What better way to get one of your five-a-day?

Indeed, there is something about fruit that affects our sexual senses…the process of pollination, budding, sprouting, ripening and finally plucking personifies our inner passions. To clarify why not take a trip down to Ann Summers…Cherry, Pineapple, Strawberry, Raspberry line the lubricant shelf…
