It’s not often that you meet a 93-year-old man, and it’s even less often that you meet a 93-year-old man who’s worked with Winston Churchill, Harold Macmillan, Edward Heath and Margaret Thatcher.
Yet this is exactly what I did on Friday. I went on a road trip with esteemed journalist Peter Oborne (who since working at the Telegraph, I have had the fortune to meet) to interview Peter Alexander Rupert Carington, 6th Baron Carrington.
The interview will be out in the Telegraph next week – I have spent the weekend transcribing it. Can I give you any sneak peeks? No, of course not. But what I can tell you, is that Lord Carrington; WWII veteran, past foreign secretary, MC awarded man, also has a wire-haired daschund called Edward!
Well his is called Sir Edward Heath, and mine Steady Eddie. But still, the ties that bind us, hey?
